How it all started:
The County Storm Drain Initiative (SDI) is a cooperative effort to develop and maintain a complete Geographic Information System (GIS) layer of the storm water management infrastructure within Los Angeles County. The county storm drain systems within the county are owned, operated, and maintained by multiple jurisdictions. As a result, information on the location, status, and connectivity of storm drain structures was segmented. The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts spearheaded the SDI to tie all of the sources of information together for the benefit of local cities, county, regional authorities, and environmental interest groups to develop a seamless layer. This GIS layer now provides a critical tool for watershed management, source control, and storm drain maintenance. |
