Nobel Systems Application Developer Bradley Barnhart conducted a training session with Cucamonga Valley Water District interns in which he demonstrated Nobel’s GeoViewer Online and Mobile applications.
Cucamonga Valley Water District employees, Robert Koczko, Construction and Maintenance Manager, and Rosa Lopez, Human Resources Assistant, joined the training session.
The training’s purpose was to familiarize the interns with Nobel’s GIS-based software in case they work with a district department that uses it.
Not all the interns had a clear understanding of GIS (Geographic Information System), Barnhart said.
“I explained to them the basic idea of GIS as a physical location with some kind of data associated with it,” he said.
He used examples of a latitude/longitude value, valve type, size, material, etcetera.
“I also used the example of Pokemon Go (a mobile device game) as being a GIS-based application with the players using real-world locations that they must travel in order to play.”
GeoViewer Mobile Work Order
After explaining what and how GIS is used, Barnhart gave a basic overview of Nobel’s software, focusing mostly on layer control for the GIS as well as the maintenance Business Intelligence tool.
He explained how GeoViewer Mobile, which works with mobile phones or iPads, sends data directly to the desktop-based GeoViewer Online in real time. He also demonstrated how GeoViewer can generate reports.
Barnhart also gave the interns a quick demo on GeoViewer Mobile’s maintenance screen, showing them the layer controls and tool selection.
He also gave an example of what a valve crew would do to turn a valve and how they would log inspections using GeoViewer.
The interns also learned that Nobel Systems’ GeoViewer even can pull data directly from the valve turning truck with a Bluetooth chip.

Barnhart displayed the GeoViewer Online and Mobile side-by-side so the interns could see how fast the sync time was between the two applications when inspection reports are saved in GeoViewer Mobile and when the data is available in GeoViewer Online.
