Papegowda B J is the senior project manager for GIS Cloud Solutions company Nobel Systems.

His professional experience includes seven years in the field of IT, Web Development and GIS, and eight years of professional experience in GIS Data Conversion projects.

When he started at Nobel Systems 16 years ago, however, he had no programming knowledge.

Transforming a Career

Papegowda first worked at Nobel as a GIS technician on the data conversion team. He wanted to advance to the application development team, which requires computer programming skills, but he had no experience in the field.

Drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, a 19th century Indian Hindu monk whose sayings, such as “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached,” inspired many around the world, Papegowda enrolled in night classes to learn to program.

He studied while continuing to work with the Nobel data conversion team until he reached his goal of becoming part of the development team. Eventually, he earned the title of senior project manager.

In this position, he works on Web GIS applications and product development and integrating third-party applications into Nobel’s GeoViewer Desktop and Mobile applications. He also analyzes GIS data.

Papegowda holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Government of Karnataka State, Board of Technical Education and Training, Bangalore, and received Training on Arc Objects Programming with VBA from ESRI India Advanced Course in .NET Technologies. He also holds a Certificate from DOEACC Calicut.

Inspirational Challenges

Completing a difficult project, and seeing it through to the end are among challenges Papegowda enjoys. His philosophy to achieving success is teamwork, creativity and learning from your mistakes.

His finds his success in transforming his career from data conversion to GIS application development and fulfilling customer requirement to be the most satisfying aspects of his time at Nobel Systems thus far.

The Future

Papegowda sees the future of GIS in business as being used to solve most of the problems in public and private utility departments, and “IoT will be used to monitor and manage assets remotely.”

As for Nobel Systems, “I want to see Nobel as a complete GIS package company, and Nobel will be the first pick for any customer for their GIS projects.”
